In an unexpected turn at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Game Freak revealed its next major project, and it is not what longtime fans were expecting. Instead of unveiling Generation 10 of the Pokémon franchise, the Japanese developer introduced an entirely new action-adventure RPG titled Beast of Reincarnation. The announcement stunned fans and set the stage for Game Freak’s expansion into uncharted creative territory.

Known worldwide as the creators of Pokémon, Game Freak has occasionally ventured outside its main franchise with mixed results. But Beast of Reincarnation feels different. The first trailer suggests a bold leap into the souls-like genre, filled with dark themes, cinematic storytelling, and intense combat. The game is set in the distant future, specifically the year 4026, and follows the protagonist Emma. She is depicted as a chosen figure in a dystopian world, wielding a katana and facing monstrous foes in a narrative soaked in mystery and prophecy.

The trailer ends with a haunting line that has already echoed through fan discussions online: “You are the blade that will destroy the Beast of Reincarnation.” It signals a shift in tone for the studio, one that trades whimsical creatures and colorful routes for a grim, futuristic setting filled with mythical weight and existential conflict.

Interestingly, Beast of Reincarnation is not a completely new concept. Game Freak initially teased the project in 2023 under the codename Project Bloom. It was originally being developed in partnership with Private Division, a publishing arm of Take-Two Interactive, before the label was sold off in 2024. The newly unveiled version now stands as a fully branded Game Freak production and marks one of their most ambitious titles outside of Pokémon to date.

The game will be released in 2026, with no fixed date yet announced. However, it is confirmed to be coming to PC and Xbox Series X and S. Adding to the excitement, Beast of Reincarnation will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, opening access to a wider global audience.

Meanwhile, speculation around Pokémon Gen 10 continues to swirl. Although Pokémon Legends Z-A has already been announced, official updates on the next core generation remain elusive. The internet has been buzzing with rumors, including whispers of new Mega evolutions and character redesigns. But Beast of Reincarnation has temporarily shifted the spotlight away from Pikachu and Poké Balls to something far darker and more daring.

Fans eager for innovation from Game Freak may have found the evolution they were waiting for—not in Pokémon, but in the form of a lone warrior named Emma and a beast that threatens the future of humanity.
