A New Era for Ubisoft’s Biggest Franchises

Ubisoft has officially launched Vantage Studios, a subsidiary tasked with overseeing the development and growth of Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry. The move marks a pivotal moment in Ubisoft’s strategy, signaling a more focused and structured approach to its flagship series. Vantage Studios will aim to nurture these franchises not just as games, but as evolving universes with opportunities for storytelling, innovation, and community engagement.
The studio was first announced in March 2025, following a major €1.16bn investment from Tencent for a 25 percent minority stake. Ubisoft has described this as the first step in its broader transformation, with more subsidiaries expected to form around other franchises in the near future.
Leadership and Vision
Vantage Studios will be led by co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot. Derennes, who co-founded Ubisoft’s Montreal studio in 1997, brings decades of leadership experience, while Guillemot has a strong background from his tenure at Owlient, a studio acquired by Ubisoft in 2014.
The leadership team has emphasized staying true to the DNA of each franchise while also exploring new directions. “Our long-term objective with this new subsidiary is to grow these iconic brands while remaining loyal to their DNA,” said Derennes. “They are no longer just games, they are universes with a host of new possibilities available to us.”
Greater Creative Control for Developers
One of the core goals of Vantage Studios is to empower developers with more direct control over the games they are building. By creating deeper connections between developers and players, Ubisoft hopes to deliver experiences that resonate more strongly with its communities. This structure is designed to allow quicker responses to player feedback, potentially shaping updates, expansions, and future titles in real time.
Impact on Esports

Rainbow Six is one of Ubisoft’s most active esports titles, with BLAST currently operating its official competitive circuit. The creation of Vantage Studios could mean more focused support for the competitive ecosystem, although it remains to be seen how this will play out in practice. With the BLAST R6 Major Munich 2025 scheduled for November, fans will be watching closely to see if Vantage introduces any updates or structural changes ahead of the tournament.
Looking Ahead

The launch of Vantage Studios marks a bold new chapter for Ubisoft, one that prioritizes stability, long-term vision, and community-driven growth. For fans of Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry, this could mean deeper worlds, richer experiences, and stronger connections between the creators and the players who bring these universes to life.
