Nintendo Switch 2 owners just got another reason to smile. Thanks to a fresh update rolled out last week, five more titles from the original Switch era are now fully compatible with the new generation hardware. This move further strengthens Nintendo’s commitment to making the Switch 2 an accessible, backward-friendly powerhouse and fans are noticing.
When Nintendo first introhttps://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/J9Y8r9CSs7Q8Kd4Hvw32uC.jpgduced the Switch 2 in January, one of the major promises was support for a wide library of past-generation games. While not every single game made the cut at launch, the initial catalog was already impressive. Then came the mid-July update that added 25 more beloved titles like Portal 2 and Sky: Children of the Light, making it clear Nintendo was actively expanding the library.
Now, with the release of operating system update 20.3.0 on July 28, the Switch 2 has added another set of five games to its roster. These include Disgaea 7, DarkStar One: Nintendo Switch Edition, Vagante, DCIII: Da Capo III Plus Story, and Cotton Reboot High Tension. While a couple of these titles are Japan-only releases, players worldwide still have three exciting additions to explore immediately.
For fans of strategy RPGs, Disgaea 7 is a standout. Originally launched in 2023, this quirky and chaotic title combines anime-style visuals with deep tactical combat, monster taming, and over-the-top power scaling. While it’s not as well-known in the West as titles like Persona, its gameplay offers a satisfying challenge for fans of turn-based strategy.
If you’re more into platformers and classic pixel art, Vagante brings roguelike action with beautifully designed environments and tight mechanics. And for space sim lovers, DarkStar One is a nostalgic treat, remastered from its 2006 origins for modern handhelds. These three titles now run smoothly on the Switch 2, giving fans more content to enjoy while they wait for the growing first-party library to catch up.
The timing of this update could not be better. The Switch 2 launch catalog received mixed feedback from players, many of whom were expecting a more stacked exclusive lineup. However, with Donkey Kong Bananza quickly becoming one of the highest-rated games of the year and future heavyweights like Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Octopath Traveler 0, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the way, Nintendo seems to be easing into a strong year.
More importantly, the company is delivering on a major promise: backward compatibility that actually improves over time.
With updates like these, Nintendo is doing more than patching old games. They are rebuilding trust with a fanbase that has seen too many hardware transitions that left their favorite titles behind. While there’s still a long list of games waiting to be optimized, every new batch of fixes proves that the Switch 2 is here for the long haul.
