Fans have been eagerly waiting for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami’s ambitious remake of the legendary title. Built on Unreal Engine 5 and retaining the original voice cast, the remake promised to deliver next-gen visuals and smoother gameplay. However, early reports suggest that PlayStation 5 Pro owners might not get the experience they were expecting.

PS5 Outperforming PS5 Pro in Frame Rates

According to early analysis, Metal Gear Solid Delta runs better on the standard PS5 than on the upgraded PS5 Pro in certain scenarios. In Performance Mode, the base PS5 averages between 48 and 60 frames per second, with occasional dips to 30-50 FPS in demanding areas. Surprisingly, the PS5 Pro drops even lower, fluctuating between 30 and 60 FPS and averaging around 7 frames per second less than the base console in side-by-side comparisons.

This result has shocked many fans, as the PS5 Pro is designed to deliver superior performance, not struggle against its predecessor.

Visual Quality Concerns on the PS5 Pro

Performance is not the only issue. Visual comparisons reveal that the PS5 Pro’s image reconstruction falls short. In one jungle scene, the standard PS5 in Performance Mode displayed at 864p, while its Quality Mode reached 1412p. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro rendered the same scene at just 756p.

Even though the Pro uses PSSR (PlayStation Super Resolution) to upscale visuals, Digital Foundry reports that the reconstructed images look less clear than those on the standard PS5. Problems like flickering shadows and denoising issues make the Pro version look noticeably less polished.

Not All Bad News for the Pro

The PS5 Pro does manage to clean up some visual artifacts better than the PS5. Motion flickering is reduced, and occlusion artifacts are less prominent. Still, these small wins may not be enough to ease the frustration of players who invested in Sony’s higher-end hardware for smoother gaming.

Will a Day-One Patch Fix It?

With the game’s release date rapidly approaching, there is still hope that Konami will fix these problems with a day-one patch. Optimizations are common in the final stages before launch, and many fans are holding out hope that the PS5 Pro will eventually deliver the premium experience it was built for. Until then, players who own both consoles may ironically get a more stable experience on the standard PS5.
