The next installment in the Mafia franchise, Mafia: The Old Country, is making bold moves and one of them is leaving behind an entire generation of gamers. If you’re still on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, this might sting a little. 2K Games has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated title will not be releasing on the older consoles. Instead, it’s focusing entirely on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC for its launch on August 8, 2025.
This announcement may come as a disappointment to fans still gaming on the previous generation, but the decision wasn’t arbitrary. With the game's massive file size of around 55 GB and demanding specs that require at least an Nvidia RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT for medium 1080p performance on PC, the technical limitations of the older consoles just wouldn't cut it.
From the early glimpses and developer reveals, Mafia: The Old Country looks like it is set to be the most graphically ambitious and narratively rich title in the franchise’s history. Set in a new yet familiar crime-ridden world, the game aims to push cinematic storytelling and immersive world-building to new heights. That leap demands serious hardware muscle, and that means only the latest consoles make the cut.
For those upgrading or already geared up with next-gen systems, there are two editions to choose from. The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99 and is the only version available in physical format for consoles. The Deluxe Edition, coming in at $59.99, adds serious firepower and flair with exclusive in-game items and bonus content.
Here’s what you’ll get in the Deluxe Edition:
You unlock the full base game and gain access to the Padrino Pack, which includes high-powered weapons like the Lupara Speciale shotgun and Vendetti Speciale pistol, a Padrino outfit, and even a luxurious limousine and horse with accessories. The Gatto Nero Pack sweetens the deal further with the Carozella Nero race car, another loaded pistol, a sleek outfit, and more themed items. You also get a digital artbook and the original soundtrack to deepen your dive into the Mafia universe.
While this generation leap might feel like a tough pill to swallow for Xbox One and PS4 users, it signals a new era for the series. With enhanced visuals, deeper systems, and next-level storytelling, Mafia: The Old Country is poised to redefine crime gaming for a new audience.
Pre-orders are live now across all major platforms, and if you're ready to step into the world of organized crime once again, this title looks worth the investment.
