Indiana Jones and The Great Circle gave players sprawling playgrounds to explore, from lush rivers in Thailand to the deserts around the pyramids of Giza. Its strength lay in freedom — letting you improvise like Indy himself, balancing puzzles, stealth, and cinematic action. The first major expansion, The Order of Giants, narrows the scope. It is not quite the grand adventure fans may have hoped for, but it succeeds as a lore-rich, puzzle-heavy side story that still captures the essence of Indiana Jones.

A Smaller but Focused Adventure

Clocking in at around four to five hours, The Order of Giants feels more compact than the base game. Instead of vast open maps, players are guided through Rome’s underground tombs, catacombs, and the Cloaca Maxima sewers. It is atmospheric and detailed, but clearly designed as a self-contained side quest rather than a sweeping expedition.

You’ll begin in Vatican City, meeting Father Ricci — a young priest with a talkative parrot — who draws Indy into the hunt for a Roman artifact once owned by Pope Paul IV. The journey soon takes you beneath Rome, where you dodge cultists, outwit fascist Blackshirts, and dive deeper into the cryptic history of the Nephilim Order, a monastic society tied to giants and fallen angels.

Expanding the Lore of the Nephilim

One of the DLC’s highlights is its expansion of the Nephilim Order storyline. These mysterious figures played a role in the base game, but much was left unresolved. The Order of Giants doesn’t reveal everything, yet it enriches their backstory with references to Nero’s Rome and the Crusades, keeping the lore both historical and fantastical.

The writing remains sharp, with Indy’s trademark humor intact thanks to another excellent performance by Troy Baker. Uncovering notes, solving puzzles, and piecing together the story makes for an engaging narrative thread — though returning players may feel it is better experienced mid-campaign rather than after finishing the main story.

Puzzles That Shine

Where this DLC truly excels is in its puzzles. These are some of the most creative in the entire game, ranging from manipulating rotating platforms based on ancient stories to guiding balls through intricate tracks with moving pieces. Each puzzle is tactile, rewarding, and integrated into the environment, ensuring variety without overstaying its welcome.

Combat and Exploration

Combat and traversal stick closely to the formula of the base game. You’ll still swing across gaps with Indy’s whip and deliver satisfying punches to enemies. A brief section with TNT adds some variety, but otherwise, expect fists, improvised melee, and familiar combat. The smaller level design, however, limits opportunities for freeform stealth and improvisation, which makes encounters feel more restricted compared to The Great Circle’s larger stages.

Final Verdict

The Order of Giants does not reach the grandeur of the main game, but it compensates with its focus. It is atmospheric, well-paced, and offers some of the best puzzles in the series, while delivering more depth to the Nephilim lore. For newcomers, it feels like a natural detour in Indy’s globe-trotting adventure. For veterans returning post-credits, it may feel more like a footnote — but one still worth experiencing.

Whether you are solving ancient Roman riddles, brawling with fascists, or listening to Indy’s quips, putting the fedora back on never loses its charm. This DLC may be smaller in scope, but it proves that Indiana Jones still has plenty of stories left to tell.
