Obsidian Entertainment is bringing players back to the backyard in the much anticipated sequel to their 2022 survival hit. Grounded 2 was officially revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 and is set to launch in Early Access and Game Preview on both Steam and Xbox starting July 29, 2025.
The new trailer showcased during the event dives right back into the chaos and charm of the original. It features a group of teens once again shrunken to insect size, forced to survive in a yard filled with towering blades of grass, aggressive ants, and oversized beetles. While the setting remains familiar, Grounded 2 builds on the foundation of its predecessor with sharper visuals, improved mechanics, and a story that moves the timeline forward.
Set years after the events of the first game, Grounded 2 picks up where the tale of the shrinking experiment left off. The original game revolved around four teens caught in the aftermath of Dr. Wendell Tully’s failed experiments. In Grounded 2, players will uncover what became of that world and face new challenges in a backyard that has evolved and become even more dangerous.
The developers have maintained the cooperative gameplay that made the first title a hit among friends. From crafting tools out of twigs to building forts beneath mushroom caps, the same survival energy is intact. However, this time players can expect a deeper narrative, more diverse environments, and a wider range of hostile creatures as they attempt to return to their full size once again.
Grounded 2 will be available in Early Access and Game Preview starting July 29. Fans eager to return to the miniature world of survival and discovery can wishlist the game now on Steam or keep an eye on Xbox platforms.
