After years of speculation and countless rumors, Darksiders 4 is finally a reality. Unveiled during the THQ Nordic showcase on August 1, the long-anticipated sequel is set to bring players back into a post-apocalyptic world brimming with brutal combat, mythical lore, and now, for the first time ever, multiplayer mayhem.

The big revelation is that Darksiders 4 will feature full co-op support, letting you and up to three friends step into the boots of the legendary Four Horsemen. War, Death, Fury, and Strife will all be playable characters, and each one will bring their own signature combat style, traversal abilities, and narrative presence to the table. For long-time fans of the franchise, this is the team-up they’ve been dreaming of since the original game dropped fifteen years ago.

According to listings on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam, Darksiders 4 supports two to four players in online multiplayer, with an optional single-player experience still available. Even more intriguing is the possibility of split-screen local co-op, with early reports from IGN and Push Square hinting at support for two players sharing the same screen. However, the official Darksiders website has remained oddly silent about these features, leading some to believe the local co-op component might still be under development or awaiting confirmation.

The decision to bring all Four Horsemen together in a single title marks a massive leap forward for the series. Previous games let players experience one protagonist at a time, each with a standalone story. Darksiders 4 flips the script, weaving all four into a unified adventure that picks up directly after the events of the first game. It promises a seamless blend of intense hack-and-slash action, mind-bending puzzles, and rich world-building, all set within a campaign that players can enjoy solo or as a full squad.

While no release date has been confirmed, and gameplay footage remains scarce, the hype is already snowballing. The idea of teaming up with friends to unleash apocalyptic fury across realms has struck a chord with fans. This could very well be the most ambitious and community-driven Darksiders title yet.

There is still a lot we do not know. How will character switching work in solo mode? Will there be synergy-based mechanics between the Horsemen? And will the local co-op feature actually make it to launch? These questions remain unanswered for now, but what is clear is that Darksiders 4 is shaping up to be a landmark entry for the franchise.

The apocalypse is no longer a lonely journey. In Darksiders 4, it is a full-on cooperative crusade.
