Borderlands 4 Collector’s Edition Is Pricey, Exclusive, and Missing One Major Thing

Borderlands 4’s newest Collector’s Edition is causing quite a stir among fans. At first glance, it seems like a dream package for longtime followers of the franchise. Priced at $150 and available exclusively at GameStop, the bundle includes a set of unique collectibles any Vault Hunter would crave. But there’s a major twist   it does not include the game itself.

2K has officially unveiled the Collector’s Edition ahead of the game’s release in September, offering a mix of physical items and digital bonuses. The edition includes an LED lit ECHO 4 figurine, a cloth map of the new planet Kairos, four double sided lithograph prints featuring all the Vault Hunters, a Vault Symbol chain necklace, and a SHIFT Code card that grants four Golden Keys to use in the game. These items are built to appeal to fans who want to own a piece of Borderlands lore. However, the absence of the game from this premium edition has raised more than a few eyebrows.

Despite the hefty $150 price tag, players will need to buy the actual game separately. A small line in the product’s official infographic confirms this with the words “Game Sold Separately.” That means anyone wanting the full Borderlands 4 experience   the game, the Collector’s Edition items, and all downloadable content   will end up spending at least $220. If they opt for the Super Deluxe Edition to unlock all the extras and DLCs, the total reaches around $280. That makes it more expensive than even some of the most luxurious editions of recent AAA titles like Death Stranding 2.

This strategy of separating the game from the Collector’s Edition has not gone down well with many fans. In previous franchise editions and other high end collector bundles across the gaming industry, it is common practice to include at least the standard version of the game. Borderlands 4’s pricing model sets a different precedent, one that may feel like an added burden for players already committed to premium editions.

Still, the Collector’s Edition is expected to attract loyal fans who are invested in the Borderlands universe and are eager to grab these limited edition collectibles. The presence of an exclusive necklace, high quality prints, and a figure with built in lighting is undoubtedly appealing. For those who value memorabilia, the box might still be worth the splurge.

Borderlands 4 launches on September 12, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also scheduled for release later in the year. Whether this Collector’s Edition ends up being a hit or a miss will depend on how many fans are willing to pay extra just to complete the experience.
