The Battlefield franchise has seen its share of big launches, but what is happening with Battlefield 6 is on a completely different level. Before the open beta even reached its fully public phase, the game had already smashed every series record on Steam, pulling in numbers that most titles can only dream of.
On August 7, EA rolled out the early access phase of the Battlefield 6 beta, giving priority to players who signed up through Battlefield Labs, subscribed to EA Play Pro, or grabbed codes via Twitch Drops. This phase ran for just 48 hours, but in that short time, the player count exploded. By August 9, SteamDB data showed a staggering peak of 473,632 concurrent players making Battlefield 6 the fourth most-played game on Steam, sitting just behind industry giants like Counter Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG, and ahead of EA’s own Apex Legends.
And that’s just on Steam. Estimates suggest the total number of players participating in the beta across all platforms could be closer to two million. To put that into perspective, EA reported blocking more than 330,000 cheating attempts during those first two days alone. Even factoring in repeat offenders, that figure underlines just how massive and competitive this beta has become.
The numbers completely eclipse the franchise’s previous record holder, Battlefield 2042, which peaked at just over 156,000 concurrent players during its beta back in 2021. Battlefield 6 has tripled that figure without even fully opening the gates. If the post launch trends mirror past entries, the full release in October could see over 300,000 players online at the same time on Steam alone a feat that would cement its place as one of the biggest shooter launches in years.
The first open beta phase wraps up on August 11, but EA has already confirmed a second beta weekend from August 14 to 17. With this level of momentum, Battlefield 6 is set to enter its October 10 release with an unstoppable wave of hype. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, this is shaping up to be the shooter event of the decade.
Clear your schedules, prepare your squad, and get ready to drop in because Battlefield 6 is not just breaking records, it is blowing them to pieces.
