Apex Legends is diving headfirst into chaos with its newest permanent game mode, Wildcard, arriving alongside Season 26: Showdown. And this isn’t just a seasonal gimmick. Wildcard is here to stay, bringing a high-octane twist to the familiar battle royale formula.
Launching with 30-player lobbies and faster, more compact matches, Wildcard is tailor-made for players who crave intensity. The action unfolds in a reimagined Kings Canyon, redesigned with gravity cannons, towers, and zip-lines to amplify mobility and unpredictability. The result is a map that feels both familiar and explosively fresh.
One of the biggest shake-ups is Legend stacking. That’s right now you and your entire squad can run triple Fuses if you want. Everyone also spawns with a self-revive kit, and as long as one teammate is alive, others can keep jumping back into the fight. It creates an aggressive, no-holds-barred rhythm that constantly keeps squads on their toes.
Looting has been overhauled. Items are now automatically collected and sorted into a categorized inventory, with a simplified loot pool that ditches backpacks, knockdown shields, Hop-Ups and other clutter. Weapons now spawn with attachments and can be upgraded mid-match using EVO Orbs earned through eliminations and actions.
Wildcard is essentially a remix of Apex’s DNA. It’s battle royale with its seatbelt off, prioritizing speed, aggression, and streamlined systems. It’s designed for players who want to jump in and go full throttle without spending time fiddling with their inventory.
On the esports front, Season 26 follows the high-stakes ALGS Midseason Playoffs, where VK Gaming claimed the crown and a $600,000 prize. The competitive spotlight now shifts to Split 2 of the Pro League, running from August 31 to October 12, with regions across Europe, the Americas, APAC North and South battling for Championship qualification. Respawn has also pulled Broken Moon from the competitive pool and applied balance patches that nerf dominant Legends like Ash, promising a more even playing field.
Whether you're in it for the meta-shift or the madness, Apex Legends Season 26 is delivering on all fronts. Wildcard mode alone feels like a fresh new game built inside the world we already love. So squad up, pick your poison, and dive into the mayhem.
