After a three year absence, Free Fire Max is making a grand comeback to Indian esports with the TEZ India Cup. With a massive ₹1 crore prize pool, Garena is reigniting competitive play and inviting top tier talent from across the country.
Free Fire Max esports is officially making its comeback in India, ending a three year competitive drought with the launch of the TEZ Free Fire Max India Cup 2025. Garena, the publisher behind the popular mobile battle royale title, announced the return of its esports circuit in a post that instantly ignited excitement across the Indian gaming community. Registrations for the tournament will open on July 7th, marking a significant revival for one of the country’s most beloved titles.
The last time India saw an official Free Fire tournament was before the original game was banned in 2022 due to national security concerns. That version of Free Fire still remains unavailable, but the enhanced and more graphically advanced Free Fire Max continues to operate, giving Garena the space to reboot esports without violating the app store restrictions placed by Indian authorities.
The TEZ Free Fire Max India Cup will feature a staggering ₹1 crore prize pool, setting the stage for high stakes competition across multiple phases. The event will begin with In Game Qualifiers on July 13th, followed by Online Qualifiers running from July 26th to August 3rd. Teams that make it past these stages will proceed to the League Stage from August 22nd to September 14th. The top performers will then meet in the Grand Finals scheduled for September 27th and 28th.
To be eligible for the tournament, players must meet the entry criteria set by Garena. Each team member must hold at least Diamond 1 rank and be at Level 40. From there, the top 48 teams will qualify for the Online Qualifiers, with only 8 teams advancing to the final round. The structure is designed to ensure only the most dedicated and skilled players reach the spotlight, giving newer talents a shot at national fame.
The return of Free Fire Max esports comes at a time when Garena is actively working to re establish its footprint in India. Although the original Free Fire game has yet to make a full comeback, recent reports suggest Garena is planning to relaunch it as Free Fire India sometime in 2025. This speculation gained traction after the company reportedly began migrating its data servers to Indian soil through Yotta Data Services based in Navi Mumbai, signaling a potential resolution to the issues that caused the original ban.
Despite the ban, Free Fire remains one of the most downloaded games in the world. In 2021 alone, it amassed over 218 million downloads globally, underlining its massive appeal. The Max version, with superior visual enhancements and smoother animations, was introduced in 2021 and continues to serve as the main platform for Garena’s mobile esports activities.
The TEZ FFMIC marks a new era not just for Free Fire fans but also for the broader Indian esports scene. It underscores how mobile gaming is still thriving and how legacy titles are finding ways to adapt to new rules and restrictions. With the promise of more local events, prize money, and recognition, Free Fire Max’s esports revival may once again cement India’s place as one of the biggest battlegrounds for mobile competitive gaming.
