In early 2024, Epic Games and Disney announced a landmark collaboration that sent a clear message across both the gaming and entertainment industries. With Disney investing 1.5 billion dollars into Epic Games, the partnership promised more than just business synergy. It laid the groundwork for bringing some of Disney’s most iconic characters into Fortnite as playable skins, starting with fan favorites and slowly building up the crossover potential.
As of June 2025, the results of this partnership are already visible in Fortnite’s current lineup. Players can now step into the game as some of Disney’s most infamous animated villains. Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil are all available as skins, each designed to blend Fortnite’s vibrant style with their own distinct personalities. These skins are especially popular during themed events like Fortnitemares, where darker characters get their spotlight.
One of the biggest additions to Fortnite’s Disney roster came from Walt Disney Pictures’ Pirates of the Caribbean universe. Characters like Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, Hector Barbossa, and Davy Jones have all made it into the game. Their designs pay tribute to the films while offering the kind of stylized action flair Fortnite players expect. Notably, Will Turner has yet to appear in the lineup, though fans are hoping he joins the cast in future updates.
Disney’s influence doesn’t end with its classic animation or film studio characters. Players have also seen skins for Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Though technically a Disney produced film, these characters bring a unique artistic contrast to the Fortnite battlefield.
While the current roster offers a mix of nostalgia and modern fandom, the future of Disney skins in Fortnite remains a topic of speculation. Given the family friendly nature of the Disney brand, it is unlikely we will ever see characters like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck carrying assault rifles across Fortnite’s maps. Epic and Disney have made it clear that each character will be evaluated individually, with a focus on preserving their legacy and appeal for younger audiences.
Still, the potential is enormous. With Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century Studios all under Disney’s umbrella, the possibilities for future skins and events are nearly endless. From Toy Story characters to new Star Wars legends, Fortnite could soon become a digital playground for all things Disney.
