The Indian gaming industry is facing potential turmoil once more, as per a report by News18 stating that the Cyber Security Division of the Indian Government has recommended discontinuing Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in the country.
The report highlights that crimes associated with BGMI have caught the attention of authorities, prompting concerns about its continued operation.
Scheduled for the upcoming week, there will be a crucial meeting where Krafton, along with central agencies, will present arguments regarding the game's future in India.
In context, BGMI was reinstated in India in May 2023 after a period of suspension. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology, clarified in a post on the X platform that BGMI had received provisional approval for a trial period of three months from the Indian government. This temporary authorization was granted after Krafton addressed various concerns raised by Indian authorities. Notably, in June 2021, IGN India's investigation revealed data transmission from Battlegrounds Mobile India to servers located in China.
As discussions unfold, the gaming community awaits clarity on BGMI's status in India, with potential ramifications for the entire industry.
