In a move that has left the Dota 2 community stunned, Shopify Rebellion has officially exited the competitive Dota 2 scene, ending a turbulent two-and-a-half-year chapter that saw moments of promise but never the breakthrough they were chasing.

The Canadian organization confirmed that all current Dota 2 roster members have been released as free agents, signaling a complete withdrawal from the title   at least for now. The announcement came with an emotional statement from CEO Dario TLO Wünsch, who acknowledged the pain both fans and players endured throughout their journey.

“I know being a Rebellion Dota fan wasn’t easy,” Wünsch admitted. “The heartbreak you felt, cheering us on, I can assure you was mirrored by what we felt.”

Shopify Rebellion entered the Dota 2 space in 2022 with high expectations. They were hungry to prove themselves among the world’s elite and regularly made waves in qualifiers, even reaching The International 2023. But time and again, when it truly mattered, they fell short. Second-place finishes in the North America Closed Qualifiers and near-misses at key tournaments became a haunting pattern.

Despite talented players and flashes of brilliance, the elusive major title never came. The pressure to perform and the repeated heartbreak took its toll. The decision to pull out was not made lightly, but the organization has made it clear   they are not closing the door forever.

“I am confident this is a ‘see you soon’ rather than a goodbye,” Wünsch said, hinting that a return could be possible once the time feels right. For now, he joins the fans in supporting Dota 2 from the sidelines, watching the players he once managed compete under new banners.

Shopify Rebellion may be stepping away from Dota 2, but their footprint in esports remains strong. The organization still fields rosters in titles like VALORANT, Rocket League, and League of Legends. Their legacy, resilience, and support for players continues, even if their Dota 2 chapter ends with unfinished business.

As one door closes, another opens. The community now watches to see where the released players will land and whether Shopify Rebellion will one day return to the title that tested their resolve.
