According to the organizers, the new Esports World Cup app is crafted to deliver the "best possible fan experience" for attendees and remote viewers. Beyond live streaming and a comprehensive tournament schedule, the app offers fans the ability to purchase tickets for upcoming competitions directly.
The inaugural Esports World Cup kicked off in July and is set to continue for eight weeks. Upcoming tournaments include popular titles such as Apex Legends, Fortnite, Street Fighter 6, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The event features a massive prize pool of $60 million (~£46.9 million) spread across 21 tournaments and the prestigious Club competition.
The Esports World Cup Foundation is backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which has sparked criticism from some teams and industry stakeholders due to Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.
In terms of viewership, the Esports World Cup’s League of Legends tournament achieved over one million peak viewers, while the Overwatch 2 event attracted 100,000 viewers.
Thamer Alshuaibi, Chief Administrative Officer of the Esports World Cup Foundation, commented on the app launch: “The Esports World Cup has been an unparalleled success, with top clubs and players showcasing elite, must-watch tournaments that have captivated gamers worldwide. The app has quickly become the go-to source for EWC news on the ground, and I believe it will be the same for gamers globally.”
