Amazon Games Montreal is stepping into the spotlight with its debut title, March of Giants, a brand-new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) that promises to shake up the genre. The studio, led by Xavier Marquis, the former Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege, along with several veteran developers from Ubisoft, has announced that the closed alpha for the game will launch in early September 2025.
From August 28, players in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be able to request access through Steam. The testing phase will run from September 2 to September 10, giving participants a first glimpse of what could become one of the most talked-about titles in the competitive gaming scene.
What Makes March of Giants Stand Out
Unlike traditional MOBAs that usually pit five players against five, March of Giants shifts the battlefield into a four-versus-four format. This change allows for faster-paced action while also focusing more heavily on teamwork and tactical decision-making. Players will not only control unique hero characters known as Giants but will also be able to command soldiers and construct battlefield structures to secure victory.
At launch, the closed alpha will feature 15 different Giants, each equipped with a unique set of abilities designed to reward strategic play. From tank-like powerhouses to fast and agile warriors, the game emphasizes tactical variety, ensuring that every match feels dynamic and unpredictable.
Xavier Marquis explained that the goal was to combine the strategic depth of traditional MOBAs with innovative mechanics that let players feel the true scale of war. According to him, March of Giants has been a passion project for years, and the team is finally ready to share their vision with the community.
Why This Game Could Be the Next Big Esport
The MOBA genre has always thrived in esports thanks to its endless possibilities for strategy and team composition. March of Giants takes this to the next level by introducing large-scale mechanics that go beyond individual skill. The ability to build tactical structures and lead armies means that the game opens doors for entirely new strategies never before seen in the genre.
If the closed alpha generates positive feedback, there is a strong chance that March of Giants could become the next big esport. Its unique mechanics, coupled with a competitive four-player structure, make it perfectly suited for tournaments and professional play.
Looking Ahead
With excitement already brewing around the closed alpha, players and esports enthusiasts are eager to see how March of Giants performs. The upcoming test will be a critical moment for Amazon Games Montreal as it attempts to break into a highly competitive market dominated by titles such as League of Legends and Dota 2.
Whether it becomes a casual favorite or rises to the heights of professional esports, March of Giants is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious MOBA projects in years.
