Krafton has officially banned four teams from participating in the upcoming Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2024 due to violations of competition rules. The teams affected by this decision are Tense Esports, Megastars Gaming, Five Filter, and Instinct Ouliers. This action follows a previous ban on CannonBotz, another team implicated in cheating during the same event.
Details of the Incident
The bans were issued following the conclusion of The Grind, a preliminary tournament held from April 4-28, 2024, where 256 teams competed for a chance to secure one of the 64 spots in BGIS 2024. Investigations conducted by Krafton revealed that the banned teams were using unauthorized software during the competition.
Krafton released a statement on their Esports India social media platforms, expressing regret over the necessity of these bans to maintain the integrity and fairness of the competition. The statement confirmed that the actions of these teams had directly violated the tournament's code of conduct and ruleset.
Impact on Tournament Standings
As a result of the bans, the points earned by these teams in weeks 3 and 4 of The Grind have been redistributed equally among the remaining teams in their respective groups. This revision has altered the standings, enabling a new list of top 64 teams to progress to BGIS 2024.
Before the ban, Tense Esports was ranked sixth in the overall points table, with Megastars Gaming at 21st. Five Filter and Instinct Ouliers held the 67th and 241st positions, respectively. Following the redistribution of points, new rankings have been established, pushing different teams into the qualifying spots for BGIS 2024.
Upcoming Tournament Structure
The revised rankings mean that Revenant Esports and Team Forever now occupy the first and second ranks, respectively, with other popular teams like Team Soul, GodLike, and Global Esports also showing strong performances.
The top 16 teams from The Grind will enter directly into Round 4 of BGIS, teams ranked 17th to 32nd will start in Round 3, and the remaining teams up to 64th place will commence from Round 2. The BGIS 2024 is set to kick off with its first round on May 2, featuring 1024 teams that have qualified through in-game qualifiers.
This decisive action by Krafton underscores their commitment to fair play and integrity in esports competitions, setting a clear precedent for adherence to rules and regulations.
